A welcome from Christine Gaskell, MBE, Chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership
I am proud to live and work in Cheshire. This sub-region is home to some true global giants from commerce and industry. In fact, the economy here in Cheshire and Warrington is the most productive in the north of England yet many people do not give us credit for our importance in a national or international context. From motor vehicles to pharmaceuticals, from advanced science to logistics, from financial and professional services to creative industries, our businesses, large and small, continue to thrive. This is hardly surprising when you consider some of our advantages. Not only do we enjoy a strategic location midway between London and Glasgow, but we also benefit from being within easy reach of three international airports and the premier port on the west coast of Britain.
We are delighted to have two universities within our sub-region and enjoy links with the universities in Manchester and Liverpool. Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus is a world class national facility for leading edge science and high technology businesses. We also have Reaseheath College with its education and innovation centre being at the forefront of agricultural developments and enjoying international acclaim. Our outstanding Further Education colleges and high performing schools complete an educational resource that most regions can only aspire to.
Just as I am proud to live and work in Cheshire, so am I immensely proud to be Chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership. The Board I lead has a wealth of experience from the private and public sectors together with academia and the voluntary and community sector. The fourteen people on the Board bring great commitment and energy and a shared vision to ensure that Cheshire and Warrington maintains its position as the premier business location in the north of England.
As a Local Enterprise Partnership we will bring the necessary leadership, influence and leverage to drive the sustainable, private sector led, economic growth of this great sub-region.
